Bull Creek Residence
A contemporary Austin home designed around heritage trees and a highly regulated building envelope, maximizing usable area with clean forms, local stone, board-and-batten siding, and standing-seam metal roofs.
Bull Creek is a contemporary Austin residence designed around several significant heritage trees on a constrained urban site. The project balances tree preservation, a detailed residential ordinance, and the goal of maximizing usable square footage without making the architecture feel forced by the rules.
The challenge
Tree protection, setbacks, height, massing, and allowable building area all competed for limited space. The project required careful front-end planning so the site constraints could be resolved together rather than becoming late-stage compromises.
The design
Clean, simple massing and a restrained Austin contemporary palette of local stone, board-and-batten siding, and standing-seam metal roofs create a home that feels deliberate and modern while fitting naturally into its Central Texas setting.
Site & planning
This project demonstrates the ability to maximize a residential site within a detailed Austin regulatory framework while navigating permitting and preserving significant existing trees.
